Soot footers
S t a t u s ||
Critically endangered
H a b i t a t ||
Soot footers live in a massive cave or a series of caves.
Often in rockey terrain or near meadows.
P o p u l a t i o n||
Because of the massive cut back of Soot Footers.
I'm only going to allow one per person, as they are still a very hurt species.
A p p e a r a n c e ||
Soot footers are tall, well muscled beings who are very much humanoid in appearance.
Females stand at the average of five feet seven inches, no shorter.
While males stand at roughly six feet, no shorter.
Soot footers appear to be an odd mixture of people and animal, balanced out in odd ways. To begin, their skin is rough feeling, much tougher than that of a human. It's a rich tan coloring, but lightens up a bit in the Winter seasons. Their hair is often much, much lighter and ranges from a silvery blonde to a light brown, never going darker than brown. Unlike their rough skin, hair is soft and often fluffy. Also, hair is thick and females always wear their hair passed their collar bones and often decorate it with different natural things such as flowers. Males typically have short hair and do not adorn themselves in anything.
Soot footers have very peculiar eyes, with pupils like those of a feline, slitted. They do have the qualities like wolves, where they can see in the dark by reflecting light. However, the whites of their eyes and the color of their eyes are the same. A dark ring of the same color circles around where the white part and 'colored' part would meet. Pupils are white. Their eyes, like their hair, are always light colored and are often two toned. It appears this doesn't hinder their sight in the slightest and have much better sight than normal humans.
Their hands and feet have 'claws' in a sense. Replacing fingernails are pointed, straight claws that keep them well safe. Another animalistic quality are their ears, which are like that of a wolves almost. Only they are longer, with much, much fur. The fur on the inside of their ears is terribly long as well as the fur near the base which will actually curl or become wavey. This fur is also light colored but will have unatural colored, thin streaks mixing through out them. This may only be a single color. They have decent hearing, although risk of deafness seems to be much higher in their species. These people also have retained the use of tails, like many animals, their tails are used as rudders to help them keep balance when running. Tails are more similar to that of cats with longer, thick fur. The length of these tails are about four feet long on females and actually only three feet long on males. Tail color ranges through all colors and has the same colored streaks as ears.
Their noses sadly, did not get the gift of being keen.
Although above humans, but very much below other animals.
Noses range from big to small and come in all shapes.
The most prized weapon of this species are their teeth. Yes, they have retained the animalistic teeth, only theirs are larger seeing as they are bigger. Soot footers have large canines, which are curved slightly inward. Key for holding onto things such as deer and other such prey. The bite force of a Soot footer rivals that of a wolf, which is why they are the most dangerous aspect of the Soot footers. Put that with the fact female Soot Footers can race at about 25 to 30 MPH while males can get to only about 15 to 25 MPH.
Each Soot Footer has different markings, these markings are all different.
They adorn their arms, thighs, calves, under eyes, necks, and sometimes noses. The markings are natural and always a silvery white coloring.
A t t i r e ||
Yes, these beings wear something like clothes.
Often gotten through trade with the very few humans who inhabit the area.
In the summers, they wear thin clothes.
Females wear strapless dresses or a variation of a dress.
Males often just wear some sort of pants, usually made of a tough material.
But with the seasons becoming cold, Soot Footers clad themselves in thick, furred parkas.
Very much like eskimos would.
Never, are shoes worn.
Feathers, animal teeth, necklaces, and braceletes are very common amongst these beings.
Although animal teeth, such as ones from bears, are only for the higher ranked ones.
O f f s p r i n g / L o v e ||
Soot footers will only have courtship in the fall seasons and then in the spring, children are born.
Because of their gentle nature, those of other orientations are not banished but treated as equals.
'Cubs' are actually born blind and will only gain sight after a week.
Females only have one child for each child bearing season, anything more is highly rare.
A g i n g ||
Soot Footers live to be about 70 with the right conditions.
Although, this is highly rare and they often pass away at 57.
H e i r a r c h y ||
These are beings that much like wolves, have a pair of 'alphas' that watch over one another.
Although they do not roam in packs but rather stay in somewhat of a group. Their ranks go as followed:
Leads
Rivs
Elders
Seekers
Watchers
Medics
And then regular members.
The heirarchy is based on dominance, although the Leads are often gentle.
When a Lead passes, the position goes to Rivs unless one gives challenge, this is very rare however.
B e h a v i o r ||
Soot footers are actually quite peaceful and often keep to themselves when it comes to conflict. They like to preserve their old ways and do not like outsiders. Although they have a very high respect for other animals in nature. Soot footers tend to be sensitive, so when others or even animals make certain comments it can actually hurt a Soot footer.
Because they are not as protected, these people are highly cautious around any animal. Taking care to keep their distance and full well knowing, they might not make it back to their families. Soot footers happily help out animals and have been known to team up when prey is scarce. It's very, very rare for them to find amongst one another, although it's possible. As they do have tempers at times and can lash out when the situation becomes far too much.
But do not banish the thought of 'corrupted' Soot Footers, who are filled with vile thoughts. These Soot Footers are ones who become solitary and are often violent towards others and even their own species. But once more, such actions are highly rare in such a species.
Females tend to have worse tempers and can be the ones who lash out much faster than their male counterparts. This makes them slightly more dangerous, although do not dismiss the male's power that far surpasses the female's.
S k i l l s ||
The only true skill they have is a knowing of medicines and their abilities with their hands. Seeing as they can weild things better than any animal. Another thing that makes these creatures live so long is their ability to be at whatever tempterature they wish. They can willingly raise or decrease their temperature to keep them preserved from the elements.
D i e t ||
It is true, a group of Soot footers will go out and hunt down a single doe or two.
Although they will eat berries when prey is scarce.
Soot footers will not touch wolves, but every so often will take the small scraps that are left after wolves have eaten prey.
B e l e i f ||
Soot footers have a high respect for the seasons and a deep, deep fear of the Turpis Lupis.
O r i g i n ||
There used to be many, many Soot Footers amongst the lands.
Peaceful and knowing, they were typically the most dominant species around. All was well, perfect, if one would. Until that faithful day, when the forest caught fire, and their camp was caught in the swirls of flames.
No one had expected it, no one was prepared. Trapped within their own homes, the people could be heard screaming, gasping for air as ashes filled their lungs. Young, old, strong, and weak, almost all of them perished. If the fires didn't kill them, then choking upon the soot surely would.
It was a tragic day, one that would go down in the history of Soot Footers.
When the fire withered away, so did the Soot Footers and their screams. All was silent, yet, foot prints of ashey grey could be seen in the green grass that wasn't burned. Some had survived. Very few, but they were still alive. Soot Footers were then renamed, to fit their grey feet, feet of the ashes. Now, they are trying to rebuild. Hoping never to be caught in the same, awful fate, as their fallen friends.
