Cataway park looks like many typical shore side parks. By the day in the summer humans will flock here to exhibit themselves like Buck deer, trying to catch the eyes of pretty ladies in vain hope of scoring. The Ladies themselves often trying to look uninterested in the displays and failing. Families splash in the cool clear blue-green and chase crabs that run in the smooth bay water. Many a time have children cried for being pinched by actually catching the offended crustacean. Discoveries in the smaller tide pools along the popular stretch of flat sandy shore are cause for celebration and pictures. Year and again like geese these people flow towards the park only an hour from Baltimore, or further for other places who enjoy the serenity and friendly helpful park staff.
The rest of a park, small, only 25 miles, is stretches of hill and low mountain, run through the trails of various types for any sort of adventure seeker, whether new to hiking, or an old hat. Some trails are easy and meant for families, they are lined here and there with recycled benches and interesting facts posted beneath thick plastic, about the park itself, or the surrounding wildlife. A small reintroduction of wolves, perhaps four or five are said to have been released at the far side of the park, which excuses the park being fenced with high walls.
Miss Aime is a part time naturalist with her coworker. Aime is often the afternoon keeper, and closes the park at six pm with a few other staff. While daytime belongs to the unknowing masses of humans, night time is the playtime for the Undercity residence. A gate, brought by a fair sized and well known walk to the park comes up into the park office building. Night hours on the Park are a whole new affair. While the residence, seeking a cooler less constricted night time play splash and enjoy themselves in the water, the werebeasts roam the woods and forest, free to be themselves. That is how the rumor of the small wolf pack happened to come into being one evening.
Certain times are posted out for the Residence of Undercity so they know that something is happening humanside in which they cannot go into the park in their natural states. Often this is night hikes or camping for local scout groups, or beach parties for various whateveralls the humans come up with, that is approved for overnight use.
The park is year round, though often empty in the winter season, aside from the resilient hiker, who seeks the top of a local mountain. Be warned Residence, that while there is no real camping area in Cataway some humans do camp along the hiking trails. You'll often smell them well off, and are instructed to leave them alone.
A couple shots of the Bay side:
This last is a large hill, where many picnickers spread their blankets. Despite the lack of tables in the shot (A party was there the other night) they dot here and there with barbecues.
A few trail shots:
This last is a waterfall up towards the mountain, worth the walk to get there, as you can inter tube down the river, which never gets very rough.
