Dracor (dray-core)
Didymos psychi –twin soul
Basics:
Generations: First generation is the offspring of a dragon female and wolf male. Offspring after that are stepped in generation but is no longer as important except, marginally, where the magic and appearance are concerned.
Appearance: After the first generation, which is more balanced between the parentage the offspring look more like their father. (A section is dedicated to first generation, itself.) Secondary generation size is about 6 feet for females, nose to tail tip, and seven for males. Should height is about 5 for females and 5’5 for males, weight being approximate to size. Females weigh in between anywhere from 75 to 110. Males, will weigh from 85 to 120 lbs.
Coloration of the scale depends on the mother, and grandmother. (I.e. if the mother is red, but the grandmother was green the offspring might be mottled, or solidly one of those colors)
Scales adorn the lids of their eyes and around in a star burst pattern. All dracor also have dragon forelegs, with three main toes and a thumb. This allows them some ability to grasp objects and even attempt writing if they are taught. Dracor are born with wings, most can fly a fair distance with a good wind behind them. Without wind it is a little more labored a flight.
Often times they will have a small ridging on their backs, much like the spines on their dragon mothers.
All Dracor have cat like eyes, most of the time their eyes are bottle green, but other colors have been noted, the entire cool color scheme only. (Blue, green, brown)
NOTE: First generation is between the dragon and wolf, after this the offspring can mate with either side, or another dracor and the conditions are still the same.
First Generation appearance: First gen. are balanced. While they have the scaled eye pattern, forelegs, and wings as the second gen. First gen. also has turned ears resembling their mother’s ear flaps, and scaled tails with a hair ridge. First Generation have ‘hot’ eye colors (red, orange and yellow) Their faces tend to be a little longer, but still take more of a lupine appearance. They differ in size from their offspring. Females get to be 9-11 feet long and 7 feet tall with a weight of 80-100 lbs. Males can be 10-12 feet tall
Aging: Dracor age really well, but in later years suffer from bad eyesight and stiff shoulder/back muscles from flight. Age range is 30-40 year depending on living conditions. They mature after 1.5 years and pick mates carefully as they mate for life. Age tends only to show in the wear of the scales on their forelegs and rims of the wing leather.
Mating/Birth/Naming: Dracor mate for life selecting one another to their preferences. Age is not important in the matter of a mate, just compatibility and the result of the offspring.
Dracor hatch after a three-month gestation in egg, at any time of the year, but prefer late summer. A normal clutch consists of 2-3 (sometimes 4) eggs that are soft shelled and dull gray in color. Live birth is heard of, but only in first generation and if the mother is of a \'higher\' breeding.
It takes roughly 12 hours to fully lay the eggs, and the mother will sleep for another 24 after the stress.
They hatch with eyes and ears open and can fly, however, if flight is done it will cause a crippling effect later in life, as the wing bone is still soft and fragile.
Commonly Dracor are named with a double letter present in their name. It’s an old tradition believed to come from the first of the Dracor.
Youth: Dracor age at the normal rate of their wolf father and mature at the normal span of time. After hatch they grow fairly quickly. During their youth, the form bonds with others that can be potential mates, and tend to select one that they have become attached to. In other cases they will roam in search of another. Dracor bond quickly to one another in youth, feeling the likeness in spirit.
Diet: Omnivorous, they eat meats and fruits. Red wolf breeds also have a passion for shellfish when they can find it. Note that while they are omnivorous they eat more meat than fruits and berries, typically smaller game when hunting on their own, but will take down deer or elk in larger groups.
Family Structure: Dracor are structured, and mate for life. They can be found in groups no larger than 20. Often times it\'s grandparents, their offspring, and the second generation along with a close by neighboring family. They are social and for the most part friendly exception being labored or laying mothers that will even kill their mates.
Dracor are more social even then wolves, and fall into depression if ignored, neglected or alone for to long. The exception is when either side of a mated pair dies. Commonly the remaining will not take another mate, and will become seclusive for a (so far) unsure amount of time.
Magic: Depends upon the strength of the mother\'s blood magic. Although the child\'s magic and the mother\'s are typically not the same. Often the offspring have minor telepathy and can lift small objects. Elemental magic is dependent on the compatibility of both parents. (i.e. while the Western dragon is fire based the wolf father-if a red wolf, can influence the child to water) One will dominate the other. They are able to take in more magic if passively given over.
First Generation Magic: First Gen. Magic is nearly, if not as potent as the blood magic of the mother. They tend to have a better handle and more complex control over an elemental aspect, (mostly fire) though they can to an extent deal with others. This magic does not pass powerfully into the offspring, and slowly dies down as it passes, unless the mother dragon’s magic is extremely potent. The only other way to refresh the magic in the blood line is through breeding with another dragon, or a first or second generation.
Belief: None is known at present. They seem to have a reverence for the Earth though, as being the great provider.
Enemies: While normally, social Dracor will conflict among themselves in the form of family feuds that can be bloody and long lasting. This is generally over territory in ill-situated homes where families refuse to leave.
Besides themselves, dracor fear ‘shadow beasts’ and ‘hell demons’ they call them, which is anything with red eyes outside of their species. They view red-eyed things as unnatural and dangerous. Shadow beasts are animals, most typically wolves that are totally black lacking any other apparent color except eyes, are winged, and silent (I have a race of this creation)
History: Proper origin was never recorded, history is told by word of mouth from parent to child.
The tale most often told was that Draacora Lishh, a middle aged western dragon took a fancy to the wild ones as she was alone, there were no dragons interested in her. Wolves, being those wild ones fascinated her with their ability to withstand and that they worked together.
It is said that Draacora fell in love with a handsome wolf, silver of mane and white of pelt who gave her his attentions. She fooled him with her magic into thinking that she was a special kind of wolf, having shifted to look alike to the wild ones. Once he found out who she was, and that she was with young he stayed with her. He had come to love her personality and her flamboyancy in the face of trouble.
After this union, the pack accepted dragon kind into its culture and mates paired. Draacora named her young, Draacor (M), Ammir (F) and Torran (M.) Toran was the father’s name. These dracor grew and left home, Draacor, the oldest hatch and most ambitious sired many more throughout his travels, telling the female he picked that the great provider chose them to have Dracor offspring, which were special and blessed.
The sister and brother in turn traveled, after their brother returned and while Ammir coupled and stayed with one mate until her death Torran followed his brother until he settled down across the globe and became alpha with his mate.
Ledgends: Draacor, ‘founder’ of Dracor race was known for his exploits as a romeo. He was also valued as an explorer and becoming learned in a rough language and very basic writing. Those who know it now are far and few, but try to gather to find out all the work that Draacor had done, before it became lost.
