Orca, female arctic wolf.
APPEARANCE
In her prime at 3 years old, Orca is named for both her coloration and smooth grace.
Fur:
She is dominantly black along her face, back, and tail with a white underbelly, legs, and throat; her inner ears are bright splashes of white against her dark head, mimicking the eyespots of her namesake.
Eyes:
Her eyes are a deep, rich blue. It was a natural mutation, though her mother had proudly proclaimed it an influence of ocean magic when it was noted her puppy-blue eyes had only darkened as she grew older.
Scars:
Her ears are ragged at the edge in testament to the harsh pecking order of her pack, and she bares a few scars under the soft fur of her muzzle.
Step:
She has a fluid grace, moving with an ease that seems to defy gravity. Both conscious training and natural agility attribute to this, and she makes good use of it on the hunt. She is very aware of her own reach, step, weight, balance, and placement, as well as environmental factors like ground stability and terrain she can climb.
PERSONALITY
She is calm and confident; she simply lacks ambition for leadership. That she was at all willing to step up for a vacant beta position was shocking. Orca prefers to focus entirely on her own small piece of a hunt rather than leading a group, thus she has little concern to challenge her pack's leaders, and is content to trust that they will guide her to make best use of her abilities. To dominant wolves, Orca becomes devoid of emotion, never making direct eye contact but maintaining the respectable stance of a strong underling rather than, as she would say, a sniveling pup or curl-tail. Away from them, she is a high-tailed predator, unphased by much and sure of her step, unafraid to threaten, interrogate, or share her opinion.
She is an elitist. Any wolf incapable of hunting for itself and surviving on its own is a wolf she has zero respect for. This includes pups, though she has at least a limited tolerance of them, acknowledging them to be an unavoidable phase of growth that is important to the pack's survival, provided they are actually a part of the pack. In addition, she has an amount of bloodline elitism, granting further tolerance to those born to Shadow Hive rather than strangers, who she typically sees as just tools for the alpha, if they are not providing mates to create the next healthy generation of Hive pups.
Likes:
Singing (Howling), jumping, hunting large prey, variety in her diet, and having a strong pack
Dislikes:
Being threatened unnecessarily, having to lead, being denied food she caught entirely by herself, "curltails" (omegas), and wolves (inc. pups) who are incapable of taking care of themselves
STRENGTHS
Orca is agile for her relatively large size, and has tremendous jumping power, along with a pitbull's unrelenting grip. She has been known to jump onto the back of a moose and clamp down on its neck, using her own weight to help throw it off balance and bring it down; she readily uses the same tactic in fights against any other animal. Her mobility alone can be frightening, as she makes use of terrain that most wolves would not consider. She does climb trees, in spite of her weight, though is only successful if they have many strong, thick limbs she can jump or pull herself onto.
If there were ever wolf parkour runners, Orca would be one.
HISTORY
Orca is a direct descendant of the former alphas of the pack. She may have surviving litter mates; she was one of the last litters to reach adulthood before Dust took over the pack. She has never challenged Dust's claim on the pack, however, figuring the little fox-sized wolf would either lead them to glory or kill herself trying, which is no different than the previous leaders. She does not hang around the leadership very often, preferring to guard the territory on her own until the call to hunt is sounded. She goes to great lengths to avoid sleeping near Dust or the rest of the pack leadership; too often had she awoken to teeth at her throat as various wolves asserted dominance or threatened her, when she was younger.
In spite of her historical avoidance of the pack leadership, Orca has never ignored a howl to arms. She is overall viewed as a focused hunter.
