Orca's ears twitched at the news. How had their ranks been so decimated? They were the Shadow Hive! Her body tensed, thirsting for blood, though she knew that soon the Guardians would be here and she'd have to limit herself to more traditional prey.
She looked around again, her navy eyes settling on each of the males, noting that she was indeed the only other female present aside the alpha. A second thought crossed her mind: betas may mate. While it was too late in the season, the concept of having to deal with pups of her own gave her an eerie chill. At least, as beta, she could pawn them off to pup sitters.
While she didn't like the idea of becoming beta and having that responsibility to lead anyone but herself, she liked less the idea of having a weak pack. In addition, there was her bloodline to maintain.
Setting her jaw, the black and white wolf stepped forward. While she refused to meet her alpha's gaze, or even look at Dust, she did speak, steadily meeting the eye of every pack member that dared meet her dark gaze. "If beta is to default to myself, know that I will NOT take a weak mate. In addition, any male who dares threaten the survival of this pack will also be cast aside, and that includes gravely injuring rivals this close to winter, when we must together face the growing Cross Roads pack and their hungry maws as they encroach upon the deer of our lands..." she trailed off, ready to amend any statement she made should the alpha negate any of her decisions, but she stood tall. "The pack is what is important."

ooc : Is it just MY chat that isn't working? Hmph!
Onisapher knew that the other wolves began to wonder about his position, seeing as he was the Miseo now. Yes, he was now a threat... and would be one til death did them part. But who would honestly want to mess with a brute like Onisapher? All jagged and full of horrors and such.... pfft! After his little trail-off into his mind be returned to real life... where Derby was seeking a frog, and failing. "It's alright, kid. You did your best. It's best to keep quiet." he said, as his gaze migrated back to Orca whom was pissing him off, frankly. Who gave a fuck about a little pack member? He was considered a weapon... and second best at this point. He'd never back down... unless it was for his brother. But even then... it's hard for him. He's been waiting for this position in a pack like the Shadow Hive for a long, long time now. His tail thrashed about as he clicked his massive Angler-Fish fangs together impatiently. He listened in on the other wolves speaking their mind about being Beta and all... but he did not care for the position unless he fell in it. He'd love to have mate... but it did not seem like it was going to happen anytime soon since the only female was Orca... who did not seem to like him very much at this moment, and vise versa. He had a certain respect for her... but it was hard to respect when she was not respecting him in the least.

Proud and envious of his older brother, Derby looked at him and gave him a nod of approval instead of a silly smile. Looking to Orca, the pup was tempted to say what he thought of her comment. Who cared who was beta? Miseo was second ranking after alpha, then beta. A smirk overcame the pup's maw as he looked from Onisapher to Dust, his eyes wild with anger, hate, and Wrath. The pup himself is very vulnerable to becoming a corrupt wolf, a pup evil as he.
-------------
Hakurou was surprised to see Orca be so bold, though he would not be for he was a new member. Doing such a thing could cause Dust to believe he is too much trouble and attempt to kill him there and then. Hakurou would stay and fight to the death of course, but the thought of dying was not something that he enjoyed thinking about.
His eyes, once pure-blue with now a slight tint of green in them turned to Dust. He was eager for power, and he wanted her to know this just be looking at him. Hakurou did not want alpha, oh no. Not Miseo either, but beta male.

Solstice slows down, being a reasonable distance from where the pack was. She looked behind her and gave a small chuckle. " They were to distracted to even realize me." She muttered with a smile, realizing how big of a fool she was to think they would even notice a few leaves rustling. She stopped by the river and took a long drink. Once done Solstice gazed around to try to figure out where she was. Only a few miles away from the lake, maybe she could hold it up in the shadows and watch the gathering from afar without being involved. That would save some stress on the whole event, or so she hoped.

A strange voice entered Derby's head, whispering about death, evil, and power. It annoyed the pup greatly, making his eyes and ears twitch uncontrollably. Suddenly, the voice went away and a sigh of relief escaped the pup. It was strange to him, and he was tempted to ask he older brother if it was a normal occurrence. But the question could just irritate Onisapher and Derby did not want that.

Mckenna laid in the shade boredly, watching everyone curiously. Tail curled around his hind feet as he slowly rested his head on his paws. "So boring so far.." he grumbled. Eyes more intent on Dust and the male she seemed to favor most. He glanced at Daxter seeing what the devil of a brother he had was doing. ~~~~~~~~~ Sitting to the side of the pack of wolves the dark brown male watched. The small pup caught his attention as he seemed to twitch oddly. Head tilting curiously, not caring if the pup was hurt or not.. But why the sudden almost seizure like motions started and stopped within a few seconds. "Has that happened before?" he asked simply, his deep voice seeming to soften slightly.

He cleared his throat, as his stomach began to growl... yet he was so loyal that he'd starve until they arrived where he'd be allowed to hunt. He looked down as his young kin as he seemed to become demonized. This, was good news to him for he was not just a little pup anymore, he was becoming one of them. A slight grin appeared upon his muzzle as evil corrupted his soul as well. He had an urge to kill... or perhaps torture. But he kept this in, for his heart was far too dedicated to Dust and her pack.

Paws hit the ground in a vast movement as he ran for his dear life, away from the one and only, Lucifer which embodied an elderly female he had crossed not too long ago. He had wondered why his lover hadn't followed him, but perhaps he was in the midst of his travels. No matter, Monroe was mortified of what he had last seen and wished to never cross paths with that creature whom had nipped him and tortured him in the first place along with Brakish who he had also not seen the good in. His heart pounded rapidly as he caught his breath as a new scent entered his nostrils, it was one he did not recognize. It was a pungent smell... one that did not please his palate whatsoever. //What is this horrid smell?// he thought to himself as his honey brown eyes scanned his surrounding territory as he then discovered that he was not near a place he had been before. It was unfamiliar... and a bit scary to him. The dark seemed... darker to him in this side of the forest. Was he lost? The little red wolf's tail now hung between his hind quarters as his ears sunk to his skull... he knew for sure he was doomed if his lover was to not show to help him. The queer wolf began to say his prayers...

Solstice let out a small sigh and decided to head to the lake, and pick out a front row seat for the festivities. With a casual wag of her tail she strode off into the distance, ahead of the resident pack and hopefully cross roads as well, for she was not yet ready to be seen by to many. Ooc: Moving her to Feathers...

Dust's cold, owl like stare is fixated upon Orca, as she listened to the female speak about beta. There is no look of being impressed, but Dust does take note that Orca takes such initiative, although it seems somewhat out of character. Times are tough, the whale marked creature was thinking on levels that seemed to shine through the pack. The canine leaned forward and allowed herself to, in a sense, fall from the branch. Managing to land upon her paws with a thud, the canine snapped her gaze to Orca in an instant. "You heard the lady, pay attention, you bunch of soft pawed wolves!" She snaps at the pack before her, giving each of them a cold stare. "It does not default to you, I am simply giving you such a right." Dust then snaps to Orca, it's somewhat of a compliment. In Dust's own harsh way, she sees that Orca is fit for the high position.
Dust had caught the faint traces of Cross Road's howls, raising her own muzzle. But not to howl, she merely inhaled deeply, gauging different things. Then, there is the sudden burst of unexpected power that surges from her muzzle to mix with the air. The song mixed with the wind and danced about, a song that is almost dangerous to the ear. High pitches and low pitches all mingling together to make such a song that echoed with the help of the mountains nearby. As the song faded, her gaze snapped to the pack, it's demanding. She demanded them to call with her, to mix their voices amongst the leaves and crisp Autumn air. Another howl struck the air just as it had before, finished, Dust darted ahead to quickly take the lead.
As the canine begins to walk towards the lake, a scent of unknown origin was found. Her snap left and right, attempting to figuire which way would be best to come upon this intruder. He didn't smell of Cross Road, but one could never be too sure about those fools. Speed is soon picked up, knowing full well the pack will manage to keep up with her pace. That is when her eyes catch movement, having almost passed Monroe all together. "You." She snapped, obviously not pleased to see this stranger just meandering about her territory. Especially at such a time like this. "Get to the lake, you half witted pest." Each word seemed to cut the air more than the last. It's a bad time to be stumbled upon, this is certain.

Orca smiled serenely at Dust's backhanded compliments, bowing her head to the alpha. Orca had phrased her words carefully, an "if" rather than a "does," in case there was some other female better suited to taking on the responsibility that, frankly, she didn't want. However, this was possibly the kindest Dust had ever been towards her; she had the scars on her muzzle and ears to prove it.
Sitting back, she gladly let her voice rise across the valley, mingling in song with her alpha's. She was sad that it should end so soon, but followed Dust's lead, taking an easy stride with her longer legs that felt nothing of the speed at which the pack traveled. Her tail, for once in the presence of her alpha, was held high; she had been accepted to the new rank without so much as a test. Perhaps it was meant to be; granted, there were no other females around to challenge her for it. Most had likely been run off or ground into submission by Dust and the previous beta, Nusaik. Now what remained was to find herself a partner that she could be content enough with to allow him to give her a litter of whining pups, some day.
Pups. She shook off a disgusted shiver as she ran, hiding it in a showy pounce off the thick trunk of a tree along their path. She glanced back over her shoulder towards Derby, curious if he was quick enough to follow the pack on his own, or if the pup-sitter was carrying him.

Monroe froze. He had been found out by what he assumed was the Alpha... she was the most pungent smelling of them all. "I... I am sorry for intruding." he said quietly as he began to shake in fear. Seeing so many large wolves, and those of such terrible stature and poise to them he almost despised them. Although, they reminded him of his dear love. Without another word, he stood and began to follow in hopes that he'd come face to face with his lover once more. ---- The Miseo decided that he'd better get a move on since Dust had given orders a bit ago, thus making him late. "Coming Dust." he said as his massive frame began to follow her almost forgetting about Derby. His eyes narrowed toward him almost in an orderly sort of way, ordering him to come along in a silent way. Onisapher's skull tilted upward, he let out a grotesque howl ti join in with the females as their journey began.

Nodding to his older brother the young pup attempted to howl. He though it would not be as it came out, a loud and corrupted roar, more from a beast than a pup. confused the pup only glanced at Onisapher and then took off, following Dust and Orca as fast as his little legs could carry him. A strange echoing voice rose once more in his head, though this time it was painful. A slight yip escaped his tiny muzzle, but he continued on, ignoring the massive headache that was growing within his head.
--------------------
Hakurou stared at the pup with some confusion, then ignored it and howled a long deep howl before he ran after Dust, Orca, and Derby. The white tuffs on his pelt as well as the brown swayed with the breeze that was made as the wolf ran against the wind. He caught up with orca, though he did not run next to her. Smirking with his green-tinted blue eyes, the large male looked from Orca to Dust.
---------------------------
The serpent could not possibly travel as fast as the wolves, and because of this he was thankful that he had climbed onto Dust's back. Wrath hissed loudly for he enjoyed it when Dust ran. Fear of being blown of the alpha's back the sandy serpent lowered his horned head and rested it on Dust's neck.
--------------------
Envy could ran as fast, or even faster than the wolves. He ran awkwardly, swaying from side to side. hissing as load as he could, for this brought adrenaline into his blood. The monitor lizard greatly enjoyed Dust's company, for she was a wise and powerful wolf. He stayed a distance away, though for he did not want to crowd the alpha. Black claws digging into the ground, the monitor lizard almost seemed like an aligator from far away, saliva dripping upon the ground even more now.

Nero was ever silent until noise was needed, rose his muzzle after his Alpha, joining the symphony of howls, louder, more assured than the Cross Roads calls that echoed weakly over the mountain ridges. Heh, he was part of the older, greater pack that roamed that was certainty. Sure as what his Alpha spoke was truth. Orca was a promising female for stepping up as she had. For doing such would have been life or death, and her audacity saved her as well as her careful words. The black and white male, not patterned so as Orca, but similar, followed along the left side of his Alpha, behind her. He'd stop when she did, and listen to the words exchanged. Who was this? Did he looks familiar? He did, must be another Nero saw at a distance. This little red wolf was cowed by their Alpha though, hmm... His thoughts shifted though as he caught a scent low to the ground. Nose working he followed and found foot prints, recent foot prints...He scuffed them away carefully, and took the steps back to his Alpha's side once more. After all, Solstice would show herself if she so choose, and Nero did not want to die right now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Shatter Glass heard the words before he saw the wolves, slinking, slipping, sliding in the bushes as was his fashion he'd been trailing far behind his lover for a day, trying to catch up to him, but let him settle. After growling at him as he had Shatter Glass was annoyed but unhappy at the same time for being unable to explain his tinted tones. His family did that to him, and he should not have let it color how he talked to Monroe. But whether Monroe was unhappy with him still or Not, Shatter Glass would not let him get hurt by the Alpha of Shadow Hive. He respected her and followed her as he was suppose to, but his alliances were elsewhere. Flicking from Shadow to Shadow a few feet away he watched Monroe rise and walk like the dead with the rest of the pack. A devilish Idea took him, as ideas were want to do and he slipped closer. Wind was with him today, and he would not be so easily detected. Hopefully...Monroe will not start at this surprise. So close! So close! In the bushes beside him, the long sinuous body of Shatter Glass slipped free and licked his cheek, a shot in the dark whisper threaded free "I'm always with you, Mi Hassan." Then he was hidden once more, slinking along with the pack, watching with emerald eyes on Monroe, a flicker in the leaf cluttered scrag. Were it winter he'd not get away with this, but Fall was easy, all the fallen leaves would catch in the bushes and it hid him. Perhaps some of the pack members may see him, most know he belongs, as he's been there for some years, but many don't like him either. To snakey for a wolf.

Onisapher watches his younger kin as they pad almost directly behind Dust as they continue onward toward the lake where the Cross Roads and them are meeting up for the winter seasons. "Derby, kid. Stay by me..." he said as he padded a bit faster, now anxious about finally coming to a halt in their destination. ------- Monroe sauntered as his fear for Dust grew rapidly, for he was afraid to look over his shoulder at the fear that she'd be there. This queer wolf truly belonged to the Cross Roads, not the Shadow Hive. But this is where he found himself. Moments later, he heard a rustle in the bushes... for he heard something that was seemingly large. Monroe's heart stopped, yet had some strength to continue onward as his gaze darted from shadow to shadow as he began to worry further about his life. Before he had a chance to get himself worked up, he saw a familiar figure coming towards him rapidly as his lover Shatter Glass came out of NO WHERE and gave him a tender lick on the cheek and lifted his spirits when he said he'd always be there. Though, was upset he then vanished but understood for his well-being.
