A young pup crouches low to the ground, talking a nearby dragonfly resting it's wings upon a blade of grass in the meadows. He leaps into the air, to perhaps, catch this fascinating critter. "GOTCHA" he exclaims as he lifts his small paw up, peering below it, only to find the dragonfly fluttering away from him. Sweeny sighed, for that dragonfly was the first living thing he'd seen in days. His once perky ears now drooped down, this life he lead was certainly beginning to look like a lonely one. He has no recollection of where his mother is, for he awoke one morn and she was gone. Since then, he's survived on his instincts of catching insects and sniffing out rotting carcasses as he saunters day to day along the tall grasses of the meadows he had been abandoned in. Sweeny begins to venture toward a thicket that was on the edge of the seemingly never ending meadows. His tail hangs motionless behind his emaciated frame, head hung low. His paws flattened the grass with each step he took, as he reached the edge of the lush green thicket. Flowers bloomed all around him, and the spring sunshine warmed his fluffy multi-colored coat dappled with deep browns on his muzzle and paws. The rest of his pelt was warm browns and sandy creme hues. Without a doubt, this whelp stood out in his surroundings, making him easy prey if he wasn't careful. Sweeny stopped, and looked over his shoulder to the meadows before disappearing into the thicket. His light brown optics studied his new surroundings carefully before going any further. His ears perked up, for the sound of running water was the first sound of many he picked up. Sweeny's heart raced, for the water was his favorite! He leaped and bounded toward the sound of whatever body of whatever was near, til he came upon a vast moving river. With much excitement, Sweeny jumped right in. The current swooped him down river, spitting him out quite some ways from where he had started. He tumbled onto the rocky shore, and turned to bark at the swift river. He yipped and pounced along the shore, where he landed. The river now, was much calmer. The sound of it soothed the pup, making his sleepy. He wandered beneath a large pine tree to curl up, for he was already half asleep.

It was the black and white female who spotted this pup, hearing the splashing she'd woken and sat up silent and watchful. There was no mother, he looked lost in general and small, perhaps half starved. What was he doing there?
She rose slowly and wandered over to where he'd curled up to sleep and looked down on him, wet and cold in this shaded place. She was dry and warm. Thinking nothing more of it she lay curled around him, careful not to wake him. Her body heat would lend him warmth and dry him quicker, poor dear.
Raissa was a wolf of the Cross Roads, one of the more solitary who lived further down south at the boarder. She kept an eye at the start of fall for the geese that flew south each year and stopped at the lake and reported it to her Alphas. She was loyal, and happy to be where she was, for there was a peace here that was not found in many other regions even if the neighbors were not as friendly. In tribute to her pack now, and memory of the offspring she'd had that died in winter, she'd at least give Sweeny someone to keep warm with, if just for this afternoon. She did not want to see the death of another young one from the cold.

Hunched over the waters, the big cat lapped up the water to ease his dry throat. His tail flicking and skimming over the grass, enjoying the cold sensations cooling his being. Black rimmed ears flicked every so often from the cawing of a bird or even the chatter of a squirrel.
Rising to his paws, chin dripping with water, he began forward. Lumbering upon an path he'd often take for no true reason. Large nose tickled with the scents of wolves, Cross Road wolves none the less. A small smile graced his features, this stranger would be his company. No, they would be his company, as the scent of the male toyed with his senses.
Continuing onward, he finally spotted the pair. Or rather, a mess of black and white fur, curled around something. Upon further inspection, he found it to be a pup and the female. A mother? Well, he didn't wish to wake up the slumbering pup but chatting with the mother would prove to amuse him. Drawing closer to Sweeny and Raissa, he gave a gentle bow of his head in greeting. Happily seating himself, tilting his head at Raissa and awaiting her reaction.

Sweeny fell into a deep slumber, twitching every so often as his eyelids fluttered as he dreamed about what life would be like with a mother in it. His paws scurried in the air as the female kept him close to her body which comforted him even more, for he hadn't been touched in a long time, and at his age was not alright in the wolf kingdom. What seemed like hours going by, the little pup finally awoke... prying one eye open before the next making out a large fuzzy shape of a female wolf above him of ebony and ivory hues meshing together into a serene, calming looking female. "Momma?" he whispered, as he continued to make out the shape of her, as his large brown eyes looked up at her as she held him close to her body.

Raissa wakes at the words, pulling from the dredges of sleep quickly as though she was his mother. For instinct makes her quick to respond to certain words she hears in sleeping. "what?" She asks quietly, looking around and down at this little handsome dark pup. She smiles at him, a soft kindly smile. She will show her true self to pups, and those she trusts, but others get her frosty politeness and find her often times stuck up.
"Young one, what were you doing swimming in that water? It's getting cooler now, and you should not be doing that." she chides him, and while it's stern it's also friendly, mistakes are mistakes. She notices the large cat now though and stands carefully, looking weary of him, has she seen him before? He seems a little familiar... "Do you know him?" she turns her head enough to look at Sweeny as she asks him, but keeps an eye to Kohen, where has she seen this cat before...

Sweeny's tail began to wag as she spoke for he was to young to understand that he did not look like her in the slightest and she probably was not his mother. But in his truest heart, he believed that she was. "I didn't mean to Momma, I just love the water. Don't you remember?" He said, looking up at her with his large brown eyes, as they welled up with tears. Soon after, Sweeny began to sob. Uncontrollable heaves of squeals and screams came from the small bundle of fur as he wailed about how his, what he thought, was his mother not remembering him. As he cried, he saw another figure through his blurred vision that was not the form of a wolf. It in fact, was a large cat. Unknowing of this species, Sweeny buried his head in Raissa's neck and shuddered while silently sobbing to himself as he nodded 'no.'

Kohen's brows quirked as the pup began to sob, for reasons unknown to the feline. He remained silent for a moment, before offering his words. "I am Kohen," he offers his name with a warm smile. Hoping he was not bothering this female, or had caused her pup to cry. Looking around for a moment, his gaze finally rested upon the small mess of fur that was Sweeny.
A tinge of guilt washed over him for a moment, looking to Raissa, "I'm sorry, if I've caused this." Kohen murmers. Yet still he sits, watching this all unfold before him.

Sweeny was not sure what to make of this large feline in his presence, for he had never come across something that was not either a wolf, or a butterfly. Unsure of himself, he rolled himself over onto his paws again and began venturing over to investigate this large cat that lurks beside them. His steps are shaky and a bit wobbly as he drew himself closer to Kohen, extending his neck toward him to sniff out what he was dealing with, exactly. Just then, Kohen spoke and it frightened Sweeny quite a bit... enough to make the pup jump and instinctively bark in his direction. He backed away into Raissa once more, and uttered the words, "Sorry Kohen. I am Sweeny...." He said, as his head hung low as he made slight eye contact with him.

Raissa blinks for a moment in worried confusion, but rolls with the whole thing. "I-" she hesitates and wraps her tail around the pup, then speaks to Kohen. There is a twinge of honest confusion and perhaps a sprinkle of regret, out of place it would seem. "I'm sorry too, and no, it's alright, I'm Raissa of Cross Roads." He seems alright, almost even friendly she could say. There was something about his face that was calming.
Her attention is switching between cat and pup, for right after speaking to Kohen she dips her face to Sweeny and licks his ears and the top of his head, cooing softly "Shhh, shhh little one, calm your crying, it's time is done." it turns melodious, though her voice is far from perfect, rough edged but soothing. "Tears shall fall, but life goes on, each until our songs are sung. Hush now love, see the moon, softly, softly, dragons tunes. Don't fret now, don't be afraid, it's only the winged parade. They mean no harm, they dance and play. Curious of you, as you of they. Give no whine, shed no tear, you're not alone...mother's here." the ends of this soft quiet song, meant for sleeping and calming the upset young ones vibrates to an end in her throat. She looks up again, head bowed to Kohen "Sorry" she states, there is a daring tone there. Should he criticize her, he'll feel her teeth. She is proud.

Kohen listens as the female sings a song to soothe the pup, "It's quite alright, my mother used to sing songs to me as well." He mused with a slight chuckle. Kohen lays down, allowing himself to be level with the pup. In a sense, to be on the pup's terf rather than towering over Sweeny.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Sweeny." If Kohen had been a human, he would have attempted to shake Sweeny's tiny hand. But instead, he gave a nod to the bundle of fur, then his gaze turns up to Raissa. "We are both of Cross Roads, I see." It was more so to tell Raissa he was of her pack, in a sense, rather than a total stranger. Moving his head, he checked over his shoulder. There didn't appear to be any causes for concern and soon his attention turned back to the two wolves. "How old might you be, Sweeny?" The question is innocent and rather generic to ask a young one how old they were.

Sweeny welcomes his mother's tender licks upon his head and the song following as he begins to nod off to sleep once more, the feline named Kohen woke him once more which was more than alright with him. This was the most attention he had gotten in quite some time now... so he was loving the constant poking and prodding he was given. "Sweeny looked up at the massive cat, and shrugged his shoulders in honesty for he hadn't known. He was very small, and had every puppy tendency as the smallest they came and he was still quite pudgy. Feeling embarrassed, he chuckled lightly to himself as he felt sort of... stupid. Continuing the stupidity, he asked Kohen a question that he probably should have known the answer to, "What are you?" He said, cocking his head as he snuggled into his mother's fur, getting comfortable now.

Raissa let him, by her judge he was maybe three months, so very young...did he come from the plains? "Ah, Kohen is a Mountain Lion, a cougar, his kind lived in this Valley long before Cross Roads came, they have tolerated Shadow Hive as well." She tells Sweeny softly, "He's been with our pack for a while now, and helps out." it was coming back to her now. She'd met him and found him rather like herself, and respected him for it. There was a feeling of kinship from the cat. She has been cleaning his head and face all the while she talks, like any mother would.
To him she looks up and says "I believe Sweeny is about three...four months old." her tone suggests that something is wrong, this is not her pup, though she will take care of him as though he was. She missed it...family.

Sweeny eyed the large cat, wishing to interact with him. "Momma, is he safe to play with?" he asked in his innocence. The pup rolled over as she spoke to Kohen about Sweeny's age. As Sweeny neared the large cat, his heart began to race rapidly in fear, but he simply HAD to know what was happening with this monstrous feline. Sniffing Kohen lightly, he pawed at his large paws and nipped at the feline's large tail to discover perhaps, what he tasted like. "Hi Kohen." Sweeny said, as he looked up almost vertically at the large male cat.

By the tone of her voice, Kohen could tell something was not sitting right for the female. His massive head tilted to the side in questioning, brows quirked accordingly. Yet, he would not question in front of the pup. No, the pup should never know. "That's quite an age." His voice rumbled low, his tone was more playful. Eyes resting upon the figuire of Sweeny as he approached the big cat.
When Sweeny's voice lifted to his ears, a grin sprawled across his face. So small and innocent, Kohen wished for this pup to stay this way forever. "Hello Sweeny." He greeted, allowing his face to get closer to the pup's. Sniffing the small wolf, that new smell mixing with Sweeny's own scent. His tail flicked behind him, curious, as it wasn't often he was able to come face to face with wolf pups often. Not in Cross Roads atleast. "Ahh, Sweeny, someday we'll have to go on adventures together." The big cat said, more so jokingly.

Sweeny looked up at Kohen excitedly as his little tail wagged rapidly as he said the magic word. "Adventureeee?" he said, tone heightening and body in a full wiggle as he could not control himself any longer as he looked to his Momma for an 'Ok' for a little excitement with none other than the large feline. "Ohhhh Mommaaaaaa can I go, please?" he said, running around his mother in excitement as he then romped around Kohen as he jumped up to nip at the cat's whiskers.
